CLAT Exam or the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is going to be held on 22nd August 2020, per the latest update from the Consortium of NLUs, and the decision to this effect was taken by the executive committee of the Consortium of National Law Universities yesterday i.e. on 29th June 2020. CLAT Exam
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions imposed by the same, the committee has decided that the CLAT Exam will be held on the aforementioned date in a “Computer-based, online, center-based” form. The notification for the same effect has decided against an offline mode of the exam because it would “require large scale movement of students to limited centers, and significant logistics in the handling of question papers and answer scripts, which is not possible during the prevalent pandemic conditions.”
Also, the committee has decided against an online test at home because “current technological measures cannot ensure transparency, fairness and integrity of a high stakes examination process or maintain equitable access to necessary facilities”.
As a result the Consortium has come up with the option that “an on-line test at a large number of centres compliant with physical distancing and public health safety prescriptions is in the best interests of the health and safety of candidates and test administrators.”
The CLAT Exam which was originally going to be held on May 10, had been postponed to May 24 in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic. However, due to the extension of the national lockdown, it was yet again rescheduled to June 21.
The list of examination centres will be intimated to the candidates on 1st July and the committee is also expected to come up with detailed guidelines for the exam.
