India to develop jet engines for aircrafts with foreign collaboration
India is set to develop jet engines for aircraft like LCA in association with the International Engine House.
Presently, the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas is integrated with an imported engine.
Flight Operational Clearance (FOC) configuration of LCA Tejas demands higher thrust as compared to the intended engine requirement hence the requirement to develop a modified engine.
Quick Facts: LCA Tejas was manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

Barbados has become the World’s newest republic around 400 years after it became a British colony.
Barbados removed Queen Elizabeth II as the head of the state with Dame Sandra Prunella Mason taking over as the President of Barbados.
Barbados is said to have been made a slave society by the British and first became an English colony in 1625.

New Marine Reptile named ‘Kyhytysuka sachicarum’ discovered
Kyhytysuka sachicarum is a new marine reptile species discovered by an international team of researchers.
The species was discovered from fossils found in central Columbia.
The new species has been named Kyhytysuka sachicarum to honor the Muisca culture of central Colombia.
Quick Facts: Kyhytysuka means “the one that cuts with something sharp”.

Vidya Deevena Scheme launched in Andhra Pradesh
The Andhra Pradesh Government has recently released INR 686 crores for the Vidya Deevena tranche of the scheme.
It is an education assistance scheme that provides scholarships to students who are not able to pay their college fees.
Any student whose family income is less than INR 2.5 lakhs is eligible under the scheme.

Judges Bill introduced in Lok Sabha
The Judges Bill was introduced by the Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju in Lok Sabha.
The bill intends to amend the High Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Act and the Supreme Court Judges (Salaries and Condition of Service) Act.
The bill seeks to bring clarity whether the SC and HC judges are entitled to get additional pension on attaining a certain age.

Dhanush wins Best Actor award at the 6th BRICS Film Festival
Veteran actor Dhanush has bagged the Best Actor Award at the sixth edition of the BRICS Film Festival for his film “Asuran”.
The 6th BRICS Film Festival was held in India alongside 52nd IFFI in Goa from November 20 to 28, 2021.
The Best Film award has been given to the South African film “Barakat” and Russian film “The Sun above Me Never Sets”.

Merriam-Webster Dictionary has declared ‘Vaccine’ as Word of the Year 2021
American publishing company Merriam-Webster has declared the word ‘Vaccine’ as the Word of the Year 2021.
The word saw a 601% increase in definition lookups over the year compared to 2020.
The term vaccine was used as an adjective in 1799 by British general practitioner Edward Jenner.
