Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 13th edition of the BRICS Summit virtually.

The theme of the summit is- “BRICS@15: Intra-BRICS Cooperation for Continuity, Consolidation, and Consensus”.

The summit witnessed the participation of BRICS Leaders namely Jair Bolsonaro, Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, and Ramaphosa.

Quick Fact: BRICS is the acronym coined to associate five major economies- Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy, RK Singh met Minister of Climate, Energy, and Utilities of Denmark, Dan Jorgensen to launch the ‘Centre of Excellence on Offshore Wind’.

The center has been launched under the ‘Green Energy Partnership’ which was launched in 2020 to deliver sustainable solutions in India.

India has set a target of 450 GW of Renewable Energy capacity by 2030.

DRDO hands over MRSAM System to IAF

DRDO has handed over the first deliverable Firing Unit (FU) of Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) System to the Indian Air Force.

MRSAM is an advanced network-centric combat Air Defense System jointly developed by DRDO and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI).

MRSAM system provides point and area air defense for ground assets against threats like fighter aircraft, helicopters, and UAVs.

The Minister of State of Jal Shakti Ministry Shri Prahlad Singh Patel has launched the ‘Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2021’ under Swachh Bharat Mission Phase- II.

The initiative will be undertaken by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitisation (DDWS) across the country.

The program has been launched to support the acceleration of ODF (Open Defecation Free) Plus Interventions.

Quick Fact: Swachh Bharat Initiative was launched by PM Modi in 2014.

The Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has released the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2021 listing the top universities and colleges across India.

NIRF India Rankings 2021 has been announced for eleven categories and witnessed the participation of about 6,00 colleges and universities.

Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore has topped the University category and IIT Madras in the engineering category.

Quick Fact: NIRF was launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in 2015.

The President also appointed Banarilal Purohit as the Governor of Punjab.

RN Ravi, presently the Governor of Nagaland has been made the Governor of Tamil Nadu.
