According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Gautam Adani’s net worth reached $88.5 billion on February 8, 2022, surpassing Mukesh Ambani’s $87.9 billion to become Asia’s richest person.
He has risen to the tenth richest person on the planet after an almost $12 billion increase in his personal wealth.
Elon Musk has been declared the world’s richest person, with a net worth of $235 billion dollars.
Quick Fact: Jeff Bezos, with a total net worth of $183 billion, and Bernard Arnault, with a total net worth of $168 billion, came in second and third, respectively.
National Affairs
Powerthon-2022 was inaugurated by Power Minister R K Singh.
R K Singh, the Union Minister of Power, has announced the commencement of Powerthon-2022, a hackathon competition aimed at finding technology-driven solutions to challenging problems in power distribution and ensuring a safe and reliable power supply.
To establish teams for efficient power networks, the competition will bring certified mentors together with TSPs, innovators, and other participants.
Science and technology
By December 2024, Surat will have India’s first bullet train station.
India’s first bullet train route will run between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Surat, on the other hand, will be home to India’s first bullet train station.
This project will be built by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL), and it is expected to be finished in December 2024.
The project is expected to cost more than Rs 1 lakh crore, with the Japan International Cooperation Agency funding Rs 88,000 crores (JICA).

Appointments
In the Finance Ministry, Sanjay Malhotra has been named DFS Secretary.
Secretary at the Ministry of Finance’s Department of Financial Services, Sanjay Malhotra, has been appointed. He is a Rajasthan cadre 1990 batch IAS officer.
Sanjay Malhotra served as Chairman and Managing Director of REC Ltd prior to this. Debashish Panda’s time as DFS Secretary ended on January 31, 2022, and he was succeeded by him.

The name of the new Ahmedabad IPL franchise, Gujarat Titans, has been revealed.
The Gujarat Titans are the official name of CVC Capital’s new Ahmedabad franchise, which will be led by Hardik Pandya in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2022.
The Ahmedabad team was named just days after the Lucknow Super Giants, which is owned by the RPSG Group, revealed their official name. KL Rahul will captain the Lucknow team.
