A Quit Tobacco App has been released by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The World Health Organization’s (WHO) South-East Asia Region (SEAR) has created a “Quit Tobacco App.” This application can help you quit smoking in any form, including smokeless tobacco and other newer alternatives. 

During WHO’s year-long ‘Commit to Quit’ campaign, Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, Regional Director, WHO-SEAR, unveiled the latest tobacco control project for the WHO South-East Asia Region.

54 Chinese-made apps have been banned by the Indian government.

Due to security concerns, the Indian government has banned 54 Chinese-made apps. Sea Ltd.’s popular game Free Fire, as well as apps from Tencent, Alibaba, and NetEase, are among the apps available. 

The apps that have been blocked by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology are rebranded versions of those that India banned in 2020. 

Free Fire and PUBG are frequently compared. It is one of the most widely played mobile games worldwide.

Appointments 

Vineet Joshi, a member of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), has been named Chairman of the CBSE.

The next Chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education is Vineet Joshi, a member of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). He follows IAS Manoj Ahuja, who has been named Officer on Special Duty for the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (OSD). 

Mr Joshi works at the Ministry of Education’s Department of Higher Education as an Additional Secretary. He is a Manipur cadre IAS officer from the 1992 batch. He is also the Director-General of the National Testing Agency (NTA). 

Quick Fact: Vineet Joshi was also named Chairman of the CBSE in 2010.

Science and technology 

Vedanta, an Indian mining company, will produce semiconductors in the country.

Vedanta, an Indian mining firm, has formed a joint venture (JV) with Hon Hai Technology Group (better known as Foxconn), a Taiwanese electronics manufacturing company, to manufacture semiconductors in India. 

The JV will be majority-owned by Vedanta, with Foxconn holding a minority stake.

Quick Fact: The JV company’s Chairman will be Anil Agarwal, Vedanta’s non-executive Chairman. 

Awards

RailTel wins an ICAI award for financial reporting excellence. 
Railtel Icai Award: Gets Icai Award For Excellence In Financial Reporting_40.1

For fiscal year 2020-21, RailTel has won the ICAI award for excellence in financial reporting in the Public Sector Entities category. The company was chosen the “plaque” category winner. 

The prize was given out by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), the country’s main accounting organisation, which has sponsored an annual competition for these awards since 1958.
