According to a research performed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Dhaka Stock Exchange, Bangladesh ranks first in South Asia in terms of women on the boards of publicly traded companies (DSE).
Despite the impact of COVID-19, which has disproportionately harmed women, the percentage of women who are independent directors on listed firms has increased from 5% in 2020 to 6%, according to the latest numbers, according to an IFC press release.

Bengaluru hosts the nation’s first Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Technology Park (ARTPARK).Â
Bengaluru, Karnataka, has been home to the country’s first Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Technology Park (ARTPARK). It is supported by a non-profit foundation established by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru, with seed funding of Rs. 230 crore from the state and federal governments.
ARTPARK’s goal is to connect the unconnected through futuristic technologies, with an emphasis on developing India’s premier artificial intelligence and robotics innovation ecosystem.
Quick Fact: AI Foundry and ARTPARK (AI and Robotics Technology Park) are launching a $100 million venture fund to support AI and robotics technologies in India. The government, private firms, and venture capitalists will back the fund.
Appointments
Air India’s new chairman is N Chandrasekaran.
N Chandrasekaran, the chairman of Tata Sons, has been named Air India’s chairman. N Chandrasekaran was re-elected to a second five-year term as chairman of Tata Sons in February 2022.
Tata Sons is expected to name a new MD and CEO for Air India soon, replacing Ilker Ayci, who was supposed to take over next month but quit due to controversy surrounding his appointment.
Quick Fact: In addition to Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Tata Chemicals, and Tata Consumer Products, Chandrasekaran is the non-executive chairman of a number of other Tata Group firms.
Sports
Chennai will host the FIDE Chess Olympiad 2022.
The FIDE Chess Olympiad 2022 will be hosted by India. From July 26th to August 8th, 2022, the 44th Olympiad will be hosted in Chennai.
The FIDE Chess Olympiad will be held in India for the first time since 1927.
Quick Fact: The tournament was supposed to take place in Russia, but FIDE withdrew after the invasion of Ukraine.

At the IFR Asia Awards 2021, Axis Bank was named “Asian Bank of the Year.”
For its breadth of coverage and depth of competence in the Asian investment banking area, Axis Bank, India’s third-largest private sector bank, has been named IFR Asia’s Asian Bank of The Year.
The award recognises the bank’s exceptional achievement in equity and debt issuance across all major products and sectors.
Axis Bank was the sole local bank to serve as a global coordinator for Paytm’s record-breaking Rs. 183 billion IPO, as well as Macrotech Developers’ Rs. 25 billion IPO.
Quick Fact: The bank was also named the ‘Best DCM House in India’ at the Finance Asia Country Awards this year.
