Physics Nobel Prize laureate Philip Anderson passes away

Philip Warren Anderson had received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1977. His co-recipients were Nevill Francis Mott & John Hasbrouck van Vleck. The nobel was for their contribution on fundamental theoretical investigations of the electronic structure of magnetic and disordered systems.

National Preparedness Survey on COVID-19 released

The survey was released on the basis of the National Corona Survey conducted in 410 districts. The National Corona Survey was done to understand the priorities and constraints in the preparedness of COVID-19 fight and do a comparative analysis. The results say that majority of people have an increased awareness of the disease and are taking precautions.

Tony Lewis, developer of Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method, passes away

Tony, alongside fellow mathematician Frank Duckworth, devised the Duckworth-Lewis method. It was introduced in 1997 and adopted officially by the ICC (International Cricket Council) in 1999. The mathematical formula continues to be used in rain reduced limited overs cricket games across the globe.

Justice Rajnesh Oswal sworn in as permanent Judge of High Court of J&K, Ladakh

Justice Oswal was administered oath of office by Chief Justice Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Justice Gita Mittal. He is the first Judge of the High Court to take oath under the Indian Constitution. All previous judges have taken oath under the JnK constitution.

GoI launches 5 research projects to control COVID-19 spread

Project 1 aims to find a metabolite biomarker signature for the virus and use it to develop a drug Project 2 will develop viricidal coatings that can be used in surgical masks to kill the virus before spreading Project 3 will develop polymeric compounds to coat upon surfaces which will kill the viruses Project 4 will develop a material to remove viruses and bacteria adhering to surfaces Project 5 will develop antibody-based capture of COVID-19 and inactivate it using lipid based gel.

PhonePe launches coronavirus insurance policy ‘Corona Care’

PhonePe has launched a unique coronavirus hospitalisation insurance policy called “Corona Care.” It has partnered with Bajaj Allianz General Insurance for the same. The policy covers 30 days of expenses related to pre-hospitalization costs and post-care medical treatment.

DRDO develops bio suit for personnel safety

The bio suit will keep the medical, paramedical and other personnel engaged in combating COVID-19 safe from the virus. It exceeds the criteria defined for body suits by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The current production capacity is 7000 suits per day.
