Indian boxers win gold at the Alexis Vastine International

Indian boxers Amit Panghal, Sanjeet and Ashish Kumar have won gold medals at the Alexis Valentine International Boxing Tournament.

Alexis Valentine International Boxing Tournament was held in Nantes, France.

The tournament was the first international event that Indian boxers were a part of since the coronavirus lockdown.

Amit Panghal, Sanjeet and Ashish Kumar won the gold medals in 52, 91 and 75 kg respectively.

India’s first ‘tyre park’ to open up in West Bengal

The capital city of West Bengal, Kolkata will soon feature India’s first “Tyre Park”.

At the tyre park, artworks made from scrap and defective parts will be on display.

The tyre park will be launched by the West Bengal Transport Corporation.

The Tyre Park will come up at the Esplanade area and would have a small cafe where people can sit, relax and enjoy the craftsmanship made from tyres.

Jio bags title sponsorship for BCCI’s Women T20 Challenge 2020

Jio has bagged the title sponsorship for BCCI’s Women T20 Challenge 2020.

The partnership will have the support of Reliance Foundation Education and Sports For All (RF ESA) too.

For the first time a sponsor has signed with BCCI exclusively for the women’s matches. 

The Jio Women’s T20 Challenge is to be played from 4th November to 9th November at Sharjah.

Panna included in “World network of Biosphere Reserves”

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has included the Panna National Park of Madhya Pradesh under its “World network of Biosphere reserves”.

Other than the Panna National Park, Fuvahmulahand Addu Atoll of Maldives is also included in the list this year.

UNESCO has described the National Park as a critical tiger habitat and stated that the park is home to the World Heritage site of Khajuraho temples.

Panna National park is also included under the list of biosphere reserve by the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest.

Quick Fact: Panna National Park is located in Panna and Chhatarpur districts of Madhya Pradesh and is spread over an area of 542.67 km square.

Public Affairs Index-2020

The Public Affairs Index-2020 has been released by the Public Affairs Centre.

In the index, the states have been ranked on governance performance on the basis of a composite index.

Kerala has topped the index.

Kerala is followed by Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka that have been positioned second, third and fourth rank respectively.

Quick Fact: According to the index, Manipur, Delhi and Uttarakhand are the worst performing states.

IISc and Indian Oil collaborate for Hydrogen Generation Technology

The IISc and the Indian Oil Corporation Research and Development Centre signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop Hydrogen Generation Technology, that is based on biomass gasification.

Hydrogen Generation Technology, will be developed in order to produce Fuel Cell Grade Hydrogen at an affordable price.

The technology is being developed to provide clean energy option.

This clean energy in turn will address the challenge of biomass waste.

Super typhoon Goni hits the Philippines

On 1st November, super typhoon Goni hit the eastern part of the Philippines.

This typhoon is being considered as the world’s strongest storm so far this year.

It has brought “catastrophic violent winds” and thus had the hardest landfall on record.

The Super Typhoon first hit land over Catanduanes province and then pummeled Albay.

‘Arogya Van’ inaugurated in Gujarat’s Narmada district

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the ‘Arogya Van’.

The Arogya Van is located in the Narmada district of Gujarat. 

Arogya Van has been set up on 17 acres of land in Kevadia for spreading awareness on Yoga, Ayurveda and Meditation.

Among other things, the ‘Aarogya Van’ includes a lotus pond, alba garden, aroma garden, yoga and meditation garden, indoor plant section, digital information centre, souvenir shop and a cafeteria serving Ayurveda foods.
