IPMAT Exam Analysis is very important to get admission into IIM IPM. Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM Indore) is an ace institute in Management studies. From lakhs of aspirants, only a few hundred get a seat in this premier institute. With competition so high, it becomes important for young aspirants to succeed in its entrance exam for admission into its five-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM). In this article, we are giving the IPMAT Exam Analysis of the past three years to help you plan your strategies better!

Ipmat Exam Analysis And Other Info

IIM Indore has conducted a national level IPM entrance exam every year since 2011, called IPMAT ( Integrated Programme in Management Aptitude Test). The exam is conducted in an online computed based mode, and students are given two hours to complete 100 questions of both MCQ and short answer type. The exam has three sections which are Quantitative Ability (MCQ type questions), Quantitative Ability (Short-answer questions), and lastly, Verbal Ability (MCQ type questions). IIM Indore admission is divided into three parts which are given in the table below along with their weightage (Check out the complete IPMAT Pattern):

Some basic changes over the years

  • The IPMAT syllabus has remained the same over the years, with a focus on Quantitative and Verbal Ability as the focus of the exam. However, IIM Indore had changed the pattern of the exam in 2018 by making the Quantitative section divided into two parts where 20 marks were allotted for short answer questions, and 40 marks were allotted for the MCQs.
  • The new short answer questions have:
    • no negative marking
    • space provided to type in the answers

However, to prepare better for the upcoming IPMAT 2021 exam, it is important to analyse previous years’ exam in detail, and know what the previous test-takers have thought about it.

Broad Highlights of IPMAT 2019

  • The exam took place on 10th June 2019 across 28 Indian cities.
  • Those who successfully passed the entrance were called for a WAT(Written Ability Test), followed by PI (Personal Interview) which was taken by extremely qualified professionals from IIM and other acclaimed universities.
  • The Quantitative Ability Section was divided into two parts with effect from 2018. Where 20 marks were allotted for short answer questions, and 40 marks for MCQs.
  • The maximum marks was 100, and the time to complete the exam was 2 hours.
  • The mode in which the exam was conducted was online computer based.
  • It was found that the difficulty level of the exam was somewhere between moderate to difficult. Students noted that the Quantitative section had some time taking questions, while the Verbal Ability section was relatively easy to complete.
  • Sections were timed.
1. Quantitative Ability Section Analysis (Short Answer Type)

Students breathed a sigh of relief in this section, as every wrong attempt did not take away any of their marks. This section had no negative marking. Although, the section had no negative marking, but the questions found in this were more time consuming and break racking. Students noted that a lot of questions were centred around topics like Arithmetic Progression, Algebra, Logarithms, etc. A table of topic and no. of questions that came in the exam is given below to help aspirants get a better look at the last year’s exam:

2. Quantitative Ability Section Analysis (MCQ Type)

This section was well on the lines of previous year in terms of its structure and pattern. However, students found the difficulty level to be a bit more challenging and hard. This should act as a guide to the 2020 aspirants to pull up their socks and practice their quantitative ability nicely with special attention to topics like Algebra and DI as they were found the most in the previous year’s exam. 3. Verbal Ability Section Analysis 

The section was dominated by two reading comprehension questions. The section as a whole had an easy to moderate difficulty level. Students found a lot of questions related to filling in the blanks to be easy. Students who had practised their language skills efficiently found that they could complete the section well under the time and even have extra time remaining in their hands.
